Stop Comparing Yourself to Others
“Isiah, do you want to sell solar for me in Dallas, TX? I’m a sales manager out here and would like to have you come out here and work for me.” Instead of being excited about the potential opportunity to make a bunch of money, I sat there in silence. Disappointed. The guy that was two years younger and dependent on me to make sure I had him lined up in the right position to make a tackle was offering me a job. I was making $20/hr while this guy was closing $5000 deals. Great for him but where the hell did I go wrong? I went to college and got a degree like they said. What else was I supposed to do? What did my friend do that I didn’t?
How many times have you thought to yourself that your friends are in a better place than you? There are many reasons why you might think someone has their shit together. Social media is a big proponent of this. You might see them take vacations, ordering bottle service, driving their Teslas, or wearing Gucci. This can be that they earned it or they’re going into debt to show off. It doesn’t matter, because that is their choice in this life and they’re taking advantage of it. While they are, you are just sitting on your hands wishing you had what they had or making judgements of them. The fact is that they are enjoying their life and you are wasting yours.
You may or may not need those things to feel accomplished in the life but that is not the point. What you have to discover is your true purpose for being on this earth. If you are in a relationship cherish that person. If you just started a new career, learn everything and be the best. If you like to workout, get shredded. Take trips, create a savings account, invest in the market or real estate. Find something that makes YOU happy. You have your own life and only you know what you want. Get off your ass and go get it. You’re an athlete, you know what you need to do. Whatever you decide to do, make sure it’s because it is something you have always wanted and not what someone else has.
