Constant Growth

If you are not growing, then what are you doing?

We as people are drawn to complacency and comfort. If you think about all your goals, they are always a dead end.

  • “I want to make $100k/ year”
  • “I want to buy a house”
  • “I want to get married”

We want to get to this place called “I did it” but what happens after you’ve done it? Do you go back to your old ways and fall off that mountain you desperately worked so hard to climb?

Imagine if you finally got the six-pack abs you have been working towards. All your friends and family are so impressed and applaud you for your discipline. You are the most attractive person in your city now. People at the gym stare at you and want to bug you during your workouts. Your gf/bf/wife/husband/fwb etc.  can’t keep their hands off you and only post pictures with you with your shirt off. What a life! But hold up, old creepy complacency has its eye on you from the corner of the room. Suddenly, you quit.

You start to eat a couple snacks here and there. Desserts late at night (on a date probably). You start to skip a couple of reps, then sets, and then eventually workouts entirely. Now it’s late November and you’re eating out because of the holiday season. Christmas cookies and other pointless calories. Flash forward, it’s New Years Eve and you have the ole “Lose Weight” New Years resolution. Back on the hamster wheel you go.

You can’t grow this way. That mentality will lead you down a path into depression and not feeling enough for anyone and more importantly, yourself. You must change your mindset to always strive for continuous improvement. That is how you can get rid of boredom and complacency.

Set continuous goals.

  •   “I want to tell my wife that she is beautiful everyday”
  •   “I want to workout 5 days a week, each month”
  •   “I want to grow my income by 50k a year, each year”

Instead of placing a final destination, choose a journey to go on. There isn’t an end to the journey. Only ahead. You will see yourself growing in unimaginable ways if you stay on the journey. People will try to get you to go right or left but you tell them that you are moving onward. And if they want to see you then they have to join you.

Now, sit down and choose your journey. Once you do, don’t look back, keep going. I will see you along the way.
